Base Hotel

After spending a decent amount of time comparing options and trying to find the right balance between a cool neighborhood, easy access, and plenty of things to do, we finally picked our base hotel: Hotel Antre.

Hotel: Hotel Antre
Location: Av. Ignacio L Vallarta 1390, Col Americana, 44600 Guadalajara, Jal., Mexico
Website: https://hotelantre.com/

Hotel Antre is in the Americana neighborhood, which apparently was named “the coolest neighborhood in the world” by Time Out. I’ll be honest, I don’t know how official that is, but it is one of the best areas in Guadalajara, so I’ll allow it.

More importantly, it’s a great place to stay. It’s safe (I know some of you are already wondering that), very walkable, and full of really good restaurants, bars, and coffee spots, with many local food spots. It’s also not far from downtown, about a 20–30 minute walk.

Every time I’m in Guadalajara, I end up walking from this area to downtown. It takes you through a few iconic spots and gives you a really good feel for the city. It’s one of those walks that just feels very Guadalajara, so the location couldn’t be better.

Also, some of my favorite restaurants are also within a 20–30 minute walk from here (Bruna, El Santo Coyote or a very recommended Taqueria, Tomate), which I know might sound far, but in a city like Guadalajara, that’s actually pretty close.

This will be our base hotel, meaning:

  • We’ll organize transportation from here to the wedding and the tequila tour
  • We’ll also drop everyone back off here afterward

That said, you don’t have to stay at Hotel Antre. If you prefer an Airbnb or something more spacious, especially if you’re traveling with family, there are plenty of great options nearby. You can stay wherever you like and just come to the hotel when it’s time to head out for the events.

One strong recommendation: don’t stay near the wedding venue. It’s outside the city, and there’s basically nothing around it. You’ll have a much better experience staying in the city and enjoying everything Guadalajara has to offer.

Hotel prices also tend to fluctuate quite a bit, so if you come across a good price, it’s probably worth booking it. You can book the hotel now and pay on arrival. I always recommend to book from the official website to get the best price, however if you find a better deal in Expedia or Booking go for it!
