When we first started planning the wedding, the honeymoon was always meant to be just the four of us, somewhere quiet by the beach. At some point, one of us half jokingly said it would be fun to keep the celebration going a little longer. What started as a joke slowly turned into a real idea.
We were already thinking about a beach honeymoon, and then it clicked. Why not invite everyone along? The idea of spending a few extra days with family and friends felt too good to pass up, and after very little convincing, we decided to go for it.
We’ll be celebrating our honeymoon at RIU Vallarta, an all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta, from Tuesday, October 27 through Sunday, November 1, and we’d love for anyone who wants to join us to be there. The plan is very chill: Comfortable rooms, good food, drinks whenever you feel like it, pools, beach time, and zero pressure to do anything in particular. It’s not fancy or overplanned, just a great place to relax, unplug, and hang out together.
When choosing where to stay, we spent time looking for the right balance between comfort, vibe, and price, and RIU checked all the boxes. It’s not over the top or fancy, but it offers great value and exactly what we were looking for. We’ve stayed at several RIU hotels before, including this one, and always had a great, easygoing experience.
That said, we know many of you are already making a big effort to travel to Guadalajara. While this is part of the overall plan, it’s completely optional, just like the Icebreaker. Please don’t feel any pressure to join if it doesn’t work for you.

While we’ll probably spend most of our time at the resort, we may head out a few times to explore or try some seafood. The Puerto Vallarta Malecón (or waterfront) is one of our favorite places to walk, and seafood in Mexico is on another level. If you’ve never tried aguachile, smoked prawns, Baja style fish tacos, or pescado zarandeado, you’re in for a treat. Mexican seafood is its own world, and we’d love for you to experience it.
If you’re interested in joining, or even just considering it and want to stay in the loop, you can book directly through the official RIU website at https://www.riu.com/en/hotel/mexico/vallarta-riviera-nayarit/hotel-riu-vallarta. We’ll be staying at RIU Vallarta. Just a heads up, there are three RIU hotels in Vallarta, and we are not staying at RIU Jalisco or the RIU Palace.
You can reserve a room without paying upfront, which is exactly what we did. If you change your mind later, you can cancel at no cost and with almost no effort.
One tip to get the best price: create a RIU account before booking. You’ll often see better rates once you’re logged in. For some reason, prices also tend to be lower if you set your country to the United States when creating your account. Don’t worry, they won’t ask for proof of address.
We’ll be flying to Puerto Vallarta with Volaris, specifically on the 1:08 PM flight.

After airport fees and baggage, the total comes out to around $77 USD. Don’t get misled by the initial price you see, it goes up once everything is included. That said, it’s still very cheap right now. Prices do fluctuate, so we recommend booking sooner rather than later.
The Riu hotel provides transportation from the airport to the hotel. After booking, just contact them with your flight details and make sure to confirm your spot on the shuttle/bus, as you won’t be able to board without a reservation.
We booked our room last November during Black Friday and got a great deal. RIU runs promotions throughout the year, so if you book now and the price drops later, you can cancel and rebook at the lower rate at no cost. Since you haven’t paid yet, there’s no downside. If you’d rather wait for a deal, just let us know you’re considering it and we’ll keep an eye on prices and give you a heads up when they drop.
